Cougar Town
In the first 7 seconds of the scene in Cougar Town the camera shot is in full figure, this is very effective to the scene since in the scene the women is describing her surroundings and therefore the audience can see what she sees in the scene, as the scene continues it cuts into medium shot with the camera overlooking all character involved in the scene, medium close-ups appear in for a couple of seconds of this part of the scene, which is an effective way of showing the emotions of the characters based on the situation in hand. There is then a part of the scene where Jules Cobb has a short conversation with Ellie Torres through their windows the camera shots the cut to POV (point of view) from both characters this is an effective way of making the audience anticipate the response of the other character in the dialogue as we feel more like the characters. As the scene continues medium shots, close shots and medium shot 2 (thigh) are shown then the shot types start to change in the montage as we start to see a variety of shots shown like medium full shot, full figure, and close shot, these are very effective as they show a variety of shots keeping the scene interesting.
In the whole scene of cougar town diagetic sound is used until 1 minuet and 35 seconds in where a montage is in operation, where they use a song in the background, this is very interesting because the song that is played is a song that the characters previously hard this gives it a interesting twist of diagetic sound being turned into non-diagetic sound.
Editing is used very well in this scene of the show. They cut from scene to scene very often even from one place to another, this keeps it interesting rather than focusing just on one place the whole scene, the most editing comes in during the montage where they edited what would be about 7 hours of events into 44 seconds or less. This enhances to meaning of the scene because in the scene the characters accuse Jules Cobb for not being able to spend the whole day on her own, the montage proves this right for it shows her doing a lot of things in a short period of time and then becoming bored quickly.
